In the middle of the conflict was Tenaya, the last known chief of the valley’s Native Ahwahneechee people and the canyon’s namesake. It had been reduced to fewer than 700 not even a decade later. In the late 1840s, that number stood at 7,000 people in the southern Sierra foothills. The war followed the arrival of white European settlers years prior and decimated the Indigenous population living in the Yosemite foothills and Yosemite Valley. It was the site of at least one bloody conflict during the Mariposa Indian War, which took place across what is now Yosemite National Park and the surrounding Sierra Nevada from 1850 to 1851. “That’s what makes it exciting.”īut like Yosemite itself, the canyon has a troubling and complicated history. “You’re always wondering what’s around the next bend,” he added. Some people believe Tenaya Canyon in California’s Yosemite National Park may be cursed. Brennen, now 81, said the route includes “lots of climbing over boulders and waterfalls” with “very bare rocky slopes you have to be careful about slipping on.” In all, it took his team 10 hours to complete the journey. Then you’re really in trouble,” Christopher Brennen, who climbed Tenaya Canyon in 2000, told SFGATE in a recent phone interview. “There are lots of places where you can slip and fall. It’s so accident-prone that park officials warn that “a trip into the unforgiving terrain of Tenaya Canyon … should not to be taken lightly.” There’s also an ominous park sign that greets visitors at the entrance of the treacherous canyon: “TRAVEL BEYOND THIS POINT IS DANGEROUS.” Even John Muir, the “Father of the National Parks,” was knocked unconscious when he fell here. Many have tried, many have succeeded and many have been hurt. For those brave enough to traverse the 10-mile Tenaya Canyon, smooth granite slabs, risky rappelling, mandatory swims and precarious ledges await. Slips, trips, falls, unusual experiences, rockslides, helicopter rescues and deaths are common occurrences in this so-called “Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite,” a challenging and trail-free part of the park running from Tenaya Lake down to Yosemite Valley. “Maybe in some kind of funny way, that’s sort of the holding place for the original spirit of the place and the people ,” Kauk said. Hikers descend into Tenaya Canyon in California's Yosemite National Park. Like those of his contemporaries, his experiences at Yosemite are shaped by the park’s storied history - one that includes dark chapters and a rumored curse for those who venture into Tenaya Canyon. The Redwood City native moved to the iconic park when he was just 17, living at fabled Camp 4 for decades and scaling some of Yosemite’s most challenging walls alongside a who’s who of climbing pioneers. Kauk, celebrated internationally for his climbing exploits, knows Yosemite very well. “Crazy things happen there you can’t explain.” “When we were up there, something was around us,” he added. Composer Joe Hisaishi has provided the soundtracks for most of Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli films. Other directors who have worked with Studio Ghibli include Yoshifumi Kondō, Hiroyuki Morita, Gorō Miyazaki, and Hiromasa Yonebayashi. The studio has mainly produced films by Miyazaki, with the second most prolific director being Takahata (most notably with Grave of the Fireflies). Suzuki was part of the film's production team, and founded Studio Ghibli with Miyazaki, who also invited Takahata to join them. The studio was founded after the success of the 1984 film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Suzuki had been an editor at Tokuma Shoten's Animage manga magazine. Miyazaki and Takahata had already had long careers in Japanese film and television animation and had worked together on The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun in 1968 and the Panda! Go, Panda! films in 19. From top to bottom:įounded on June 15, 1985, Studio Ghibli was headed by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki. Three of the four founders of Studio Ghibli. In February 2017, Suzuki announced that Miyazaki had come out of retirement to direct a new feature film, How Do You Live? (2023), which he intends to be his last film. On August 3, 2014, Studio Ghibli temporarily suspended production following Miyazaki's retirement. Spirited Away won the 2002 Golden Bear and the 2003 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Five of their films have received Academy Award nominations. Four have won the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. Many of their works have won the Animage Grand Prix award. Spirited Away is second, grossing 31.68 billion yen in Japan and over US$380 million worldwide and Princess Mononoke is fourth, grossing 20.18 billion yen. įive of the studio's films are among the ten highest-grossing anime feature films made in Japan. The studio has also collaborated with video game studios on the visual development of several games. Studio Ghibli was founded on June 15, 1985, by the directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki, after acquiring Topcraft's assets. Among the studio's highest-grossing films are Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), and Ponyo (2008). Its mascot and most recognizable symbol is a character named Totoro, a giant spirit inspired by raccoon dogs ( tanuki) and cats from the 1988 anime film My Neighbor Totoro. Their work has been well-received by audiences and has been recognized with numerous awards. It has a strong presence in the animation industry and has expanded its portfolio to include various media formats, such as short subjects, television commercials, and two television films. His set at the MainStage at the Gorge amphitheater was over the top and he kept the crowd going. I was excited and when the day finally came, I was mad excited. From Bass Cannon, his Gold Dust remix, Do Or Die, and I Can't Stop, his songs left an impact to the EDM scene in America.īack in May, USC events announce their full lineup for Paradiso festival, I was surprised to see Flux on the lineup. What got me interested in him in the first place was his remix of Cracks. A producer who seems tireless in his work ethic who is constantly re-imagining his sound whilst gaining a cult following on the live music scene, the stage is set for him to release a huge debut in 2015.įor all my life, I've always wanted to see Flux Pavilion. He has been steadily releasing EPs for the past five years, the latest being 2013 'Freeway' which featured his successful collaboration with vocalist Rosie Oddie on 'Gold Love'. The 2013 film The Great Gatsby featured the track in its star studded soundtrack which included Lana Del Rey and The xx whilst it was also chosen for the trailer of Ron Howard's 2013 film 'Rush' starring Chris Hemsworth. In August 2011, the track was sampled by producer Shama Joseph for 'Who Gon Stop Me' which later appeared on 'Watch The Throne' a collaboration by Kayne West & Jay Z and featured other esteemed artists including Frank Ocean and Beyoncé. His most widely recognised track is 'I Can't Stop' which originally featured on the Lines In Wax EP. He is still to release a solo debut album, yet he has contributed to numerous projects, including his collaborative release with fellow record mate Doctor P entitled Circus One to which he produced and recorded four tracks. He formed an independent label entitled Circus Records with Doctor P, DJ Swan-E, and Earl Falconer of UB40 fame which allowed him to release demos, early EPs and his 2011 breakthrough single 'Bass Cannon' which was placed on Radio 1's A List Playlist. Just A Gent – Heavy As A Heartbreak feat.Flux Pavilion first rose to attention in 2008 with his experimental brand of dub step. Coming in at under two minutes and thirty seconds, the track could use a bit more length, but the abbreviated production ultimately encapsulates all that you’ve come to expect from our favorite up-and-coming Australian.ĭA Premiere: The Temper Trap – Fall Together (Just A Gent Remix) This particular flip is a redo of Ekali’s cover of Flux Pavilion’s original tune, which is both quite the mouth-full and ear-full. Regardless, his take on “I Can’t Stop” is simply magical - just like his famous mustache and top hat imply. Just A Tune is exactly that - Just A Gent’s alternate Soundcloud-only profile for tracks that will likely see takedown notices in a matter of time. With artists scrambling out of fears of having their Soundcloud pages removed for copyright infringement, many have chosen to create alternate usernames to post unofficial remixes under. The NEXOMONS, from my perspective, has some beautiful and fluid animations the battles are fast it has a great story and light-hearted humor. If you're still thinking about buying the game, I invite you to give it a try. The appereance rate of some legendary NEXOMON, like Luhava, depends on how many NEXOMONS you've catched. At first, the game was a bit grindy, but the devs corrected that by adding more EXP points per battle and throught the EXP share, making it less grindy. You can check the Beta branch of the game to see all the new features they added. For example: the legendary Nexomon Luhava, some NEXOMON redesigns. It is still in EA because the devs are checking bugs and adding extra stuff not available in the Android version. The game is developed in Unity, along with other software for animation. That I know, the content IS doable/obtainable in solo play. I wouldn't say NEXOMON is a Pokémon clone, is a different experience inspired by it, part of the monster-collecting genre. Notability also has a recents documents tab but Goodnotes does it better. Good notes also allows multiple notes to be opened at the same time (like tabs on safari) so it is quicker to reference different documents. There is a text recognition software built in (notability has one but paid).īetter organisation of notes (create notebooks, edit multiple pages at once, have different types and sizes of pages in the same notebook). And multiple options for page size and page types (such as Cornell, legal, narrow ruled, wide ruled etc) allows me to make notes the same way I would make on actual paper. It does have better options for page types, page size etc.Īlthough it feels like there is more friction while using Goodnotes, actually I find that my handwriting is better on Goodnotes as compared to Notability. I use Goodnotes mainly for 2 things, to make compilations of various notes (multiple sources including the running notes from notability and highlights from books or the internet) and to mark documents, books and newspapers. Notability also has limited page type options and no way to choose the size of the pages. It is Moore tedious to edit multiple pages (such as deleting, shifting positions etc.). The downsides of Notability are that it does not have any option to create a notebook with different pages as Gooqnotes does. It has the record option so sometimes I record explanations for some diagram etc directly on the app. Notability has a better response time (feels quicker while writing as compared to goodnotes). It helps a lot since I use multiple pens to differentiate the parts of notes. The quick access toolbar is great to change pen colours quickly. I take 3 hours of classes everyday and make running notes in notability. I have the 2020 iPad Pro 11” and I use both the apps for note taking and highlighting documents in the following ways. That’s the majority of what I have noticed I have also experimented with the syncing of notes from the iPad to my MacBook and GoodNotes wins, it is less laggy and there’s a better user experience on the MacBook in terms of viewing notes. There are more pen options for GoodNotes, like adjusting the sensitivity and the thickness by increments of 0.05mm whereas notability has a set thickness for pens. I’m a folders person and it allows me to have multiple sub folders, notes, notebooks, files as competed to notability’s organization options that are limited to subjects and divers.Īnd not that I have tried it yet but I have seen YouTube videos and instagram reels of people having an interactive agenda / calendar with GoodNotes. In my opinion GoodNotes wins in terms of organization. It’s kinda annoying having to constant look switch from the top of the screen. There’s no favorites tools toolbar in GoodNotes which was so helpful in Notability especially having to switch back and forward from pen, highlighting, erasing, and lasso tool. Here is what I have gathered within the past couple of hours of using GoodNotes over Notability: I previously used Notability on my MacBook with a Wacom drawing tablet but I wanted to test the waters out with GoodNotes5. (engineering student here) I just received my M1 iPad Pro 12.9 and pencil today and was thinking the same thing. :) I think I'll use goodnotes to study for exams, create a little notebook for each subject with a thought out visual summary of the material. And it's very nice to set up that pretty book at home, but in class who has the time? You just need your stuff in order and ready to go! With goodnotes you're setting up a book, with notability you're grabbing a piece of paper. It also so visually appealing for that type of use! and is the perfect application for things like digital bullet journaling with stickers and all that. On the other hand it's way more suitable for the things that you want space for, like journals, planners, lists etc. Imo it's just less suitable for the fast/live environment of a lecture. Even the way it navigates/animates is more still, while notability animations are usually fluid and fast. Goodnotes is a lot more static and solid imo, the zoom field functions differently, the navigation is different, things take up more space and time. They're automatically titled with the date, I just add the topic of the lecture to the title afterwards. I love my system now, I have one note per lecture in Notability and each one includes an audio recording of said lecture. I have an 11 inch M1 and I don't even WANT a larger screen because the zoom field gives me everything I need haha. It's very fluid and adjustable, and for me personally has made all the difference for truly going paperless. But for continuously writing along during class or a meeting etc, nothing beats the zoom function notability has. I prefer notability for things that are more static, like journals and drawings/diagrams etc. ↑ Software Update released in Japan and South Korea, fixes Startup and Police Station errors.↑ Animal Crossing: New Leaf update on the official website.Animal Crossing: New Leaf guide on StrategyWiki. This release comes packaged with an amiibo card from the Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo series cards.Īnimal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo Ī two-pack bundle that includes both Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo and Tomodachi Life.
